In 2010, domestic theatrical film exhibition revenues were estimated to be INR75 billion, contributing 74 per cent of the total revenues of the Indian filmed entertainment industry. With 70% of India’s total number of cinemas in South India, it also produces 82% of the total movies in the country. Though multiplex experience is hard to replicate through other digital media like Television, Internet Movies, Indians have now realized the potential of advanced home theatre systems which provide a similar movie experience. It is expected that the home theatre shall double in market size within next two years.
